1199 has been steadily expanding to serve their 250,000 members. The entities comprising the 1199 family have their headquarters offices at 330 West 42nd Street where they occupy 16 floors, and 310 West 43rd Street where they occupy all 12 floors. The combined 1199 family staff at these two locations exceeds 2,000 users and occupies more than 400,000 square feet. Eight satellite offices are distributed across the region and house another 300 users. This dynamic organization needed voice, data and information technology infrastructure to connect individuals within each individual entity, and interconnect within the family of entities. In addition, a number of mission-critical information technology activities are accomplished by the entities including: health benefit claims processing, pension fund management, membership and dues processing, separate member services and political action call centers, and membership communications systems.
BBH began serving the 1199 family over a decade ago, and has provided a wide range of infrastructure design, implementation and support services. BBH assisted the 1199 family in developing and implementing a voice, data, and IT strategy to support their explosive growth. BBH designed and implemented fiber optic connections between the two headquarters buildings, designed and implemented connectivity for a multi floor and multi building operation. BBH designed and led the implementation of wide-area connections between the headquarters complex and the satellite locations. The backbone is redundant fiber connecting the floors with Cisco Catalyst 6000 series switches, and connects nearly 100 servers. BBH designed and oversaw the implementation of the 2,000 square foot data center at 330 West 42nd Street. BBH prepared and implemented a disaster recovery plan including integration of a New Jersey-based co-location facility.
